Built between 1845 and 1857, Schwerin Palace as it stands today is one of the most important examples of Romantic Historicism in Europe. Idyllically situated amidst a landscape of parks and lakes, it also serves as the seat of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Parliament. During the extensive refurbishment of the Burgsee Wing from 2021 to 2025, the focus was on preserving the historic fabric of the building and carrying out modernisation in keeping with its status as a listed building.

For the Grand Conference Room and the adjoining areas, durlum developed and manufactured a delicate Torsion Spring ceiling system. The diamond-shaped ceiling panels, made of light gold anodised metal mesh, are clipped into junction points via springs; these junction points serve both as the substructure and as housings for light fittings. This design allows for quick and easy inspection of the individual ceiling elements. Smooth, similarly light gold anodised linear panels frame the mesh ceiling, creating a multifaceted interplay of structure, materiality and colour. The result is a harmonious blend of high-quality design, contemporary functionality and historic architecture.
